When To See a DOCTOR
As applies to all other conditions, it is always a good idea to check with a doctor after any type of changes occur to the body. It is best to consult with a doctor and to set up an appointment if you notice any changes in the coloration of your eyes or if your child has different colored eyes. Many conditions, diseases, and syndromes listed on the Genetic, Acquired, & Disease page can only be detected through an eye examination with a physician. Pigmentary Glaucoma is an example that applies.
Eye color change can be expected through the developing stages of infants after birth, but if any unusual modifications occur and if any strange symptoms appear, it is best to immediately alert your doctor so you can be made aware of any circumstances that are relevant with your child's growth, health, and advancement. 6 in 1,000 births will result in the infant having heterochromia and in most cases, will not affect or harm the child in anyway, but may cause very poor eye sight.
Though eye color change is common in growing children, it is important to remain cautionary, especially when the change happens at a later age or following an injury. If the problem is not taken care of properly or in a secure amount of time, eye irritation, worsened inflammation, permanent eye damage , or blindness may follow.
